Fact: I am indecisive

Today it all started to hit me....

Life is way too expensive.

I began crunching the numbers in order to figure out just how much we needed for school and living expenses over the next two years.  I hit the equals button and the tears welled up.  How does anyone ever go to school and then live a normal life preceding?!

Students loans might be the saving grace for most but right now I think they are the devil.

I just see the final amount due and I can't breathe.  So today, I sat in front of my computer torn between two possible futures.  Could I really jeopardize our future finances for a graduate degree that I don't plan on using full time?  But would I be able to give up my ambitions and future goals in order to save money?

There are too many decisions to make... go to school, don't go to school . . . work after graduate school, start a family after graduate school . . . be a full time mom, work and be a mom . . . spend more on rent, sacrifice gas and safety . . . spend more and eat healthy, spend less and eat macaroni & cheese . . .

I hate making decisions....especially ones that involve money.

P.S.  Oh yeah, I graduated . . .hooray

  1. Dear my love,
Don't give up your dream, there is always a way to make things work. Finish all the schooling necessary so that you can get a job whether full time working, part time, or maybe even just for the future, you never know where it might take you, get all the schooling you need/ want. You can like every other part of your life make this work. It may not seem like it now, but don't give up, it may be cheesy but you can do anything that you put your mind too. I have faith in your ability to get what you want and to make it work. I love you and want you to keep moving forward, life wouldn't be any fun without a few challenges here and there... :)You would never fully appreciate the end result of everything you do if it was easy. I love you!

  2. I totally understand.. I know that you'll make a decision that will make you happy :) I'm telling you- this is why Heavenly Father sent little Noah to us. I would have put off starting a family forever for these very reasons. When I went to apply for a student loan with Chase I requested $20,000.. After the loan officer did his calculations he told me in the end I would have to pay back $90,000. Me and my mom just looked at each other. I ended up not going that route.. I don't see how that's even legal!!!

  3. School, modest housing, and modest transportation are the three things Pres. Hinckley said were okay to go into debt for. Student loans are the devil, but almost inevitable if you want to be married and in school. (It took me a long time to be okay with this, but after having a baby I started to figure it out.) Two years seems forever right now, but if we live to be 80 it's only 2.5% of our lives. And besides, being dirt poor is one of the joys of being newlyweds. : )

  4. You have wise friends. -Couldn't have said it better myself! I know you will figure it all out...and you'll do it with flying colors! Just remember: Life is about progression, not perfection. Heavenly Father can't move a parked car. Your job is to keep yourself "fueled" with the stuff that matters. Faith, Family and Friends. I love you both and know you can accomplish whatever you set your minds to do!

  5. Just follow the prophet! President Hinckley always said to get as MUCH education as you desire, and that it is okay to take out loans to make that happen. It will never be a waste if you are bettering yourself. (But believe me, I HATE loans. I never had them, but my husband does, and I'm learning to just bite the bullet.) Take it one step at a time and Heavenly Father will bless you and guide you to when you should start your family. I'm going through this process right now, too!

You are a great example to me, McKenzie! I just went to girl's camp with my new ward out here in Maryland...it was crazy because I did not know even one of the girls before!! (They asked me last minute to be a leader.) I was reminded of the trek (remember, we were in the same family!!), and my own camp years. I loved those times so much.
Love you! Heavenly Father loves you!

  6. Ditto! Times a million. I have asked myself those same exact questions and weighed the same options... It certainly is overwhelming! But you'll make the perfect choice for you and your family. I know we did! Plus, it helps me to know I'm not the ONLY one in the world with those concerns!

  7. ahhh student loans. Talk to someone who has more in loans than you and you feel much better :) (feel free to call us anytime ha ha) Loans for school are good, but be smart about taking out extra for living expenses--and don't over do it. Since I wasn't working in Boston we had to take out extra loans, but looking back it was only about 8,000 a semester, so somehow (even with rent of $1100 a month) we survived on less than $20,000 a year--and it wasn't that bad :) Hopefully most of your loans will be federal and the interest rates are really low right now.
